NUS Lee Kuan Yew School Of Public Policy Staff & Students

On 18th February, Japan Creative Centre hosted a study session for Japan study trip participants from the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP). The session was to give the participants an insight of Japan’s public policies before their trip commences. His Excellency Ambassador Haruhisa Takeuchi was also present to send his best wishes to the participants.

Aside from NUS, representatives from Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) were in line at the briefing. They explained to the participants about Japan’s economic policies, businesses and commerce, ‘Cool Japan’ policy, as well as disaster management and restoration plans after the Tohoku earthquake.

In addition, the participants learned about the customs, cultures and attractions in Tokyo and Kyoto from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the two places which they would be having free time to travel around. There were also Question & Answer sessions in between the presentations where several public policy questions were discussed.

This year’s NUS LKYSPP Japan study trip was conducted from 21st February to 1st March 2015, with the main theme entitled 'Growth strategy of Abenomics' and 'Earthquake disaster reconstruction'. Apart from Tokyo and Kyoto, the participants also travelled to Nagano and Fukushima to learn about the structural reforms and post disaster recovery in Tohoku area.
